Core Protections

The Six Pillars of Porter Rights

Every porter, guide, cook, and camp assistant working on our routes is covered by these six non-negotiable operational standards:

  • Strict 25 kg Maximum Load Limit

All loads are weighed at Askole trailhead before departure and re-checked at Jhola and Paiju camps. Overloading is strictly forbidden and punishable by immediate contractor suspension.

  • Standardized Daily Living Wage & Tips

Guaranteed government-mandated daily stage wages plus route allowance, stage rest pay, and direct transparent tip distribution without middleman deductions.

  • High-Altitude Medical Protection & Emergency Descent

Full medical coverage for altitude illness, frostbite, and injuries. Immediate evacuation protocol to Skardu hospital if a porter falls ill — no porter is ever left behind.

  • Subsidized High-Altitude Gear & Eyewear

UV400 protective sunglasses, insulated mountain boots, waterproof shell layers, sleeping mats, and warm socks provided or verified before entering glacial zones.

  • Nutritious Rations & Insulated Tents

High-calorie Balti rations (tsampa, flour, ghee, tea, dal, meat), dedicated mess stoves, and weatherproof group shelters at all glacial campsites including Urdukas and Concordia.

  • Askole & Hushe Community Empowerment

Local hiring priority given to mountain village communities across Shigar and Ghanche districts, fostering sustainable community development and fair local employment.
